The Barcelona World Race is a sailing regatta around the globe with teams of two, which took place already two times in the past. Due to the great success of the race the organisers are already planning the next edition which should take place in 2014. The race took place for the first time in 2007/2008 and for the second time it started the 31st of December 2010, next to the Hotel W in the harbour of Barcelona. The participants have to pass the three capes, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn and also through the Cook Straight, passing the Antarctic. The whole tour takes more or less three months and acounts for 25000 nautical miles.

In 2011, 14 teams took off for the regatta and 9 of them managed to finish it successfully. This accounts for 64% more than at the first edition of the Barcelona World Race, where only 55,5% of the participants completed the race successfully.

The Barcelona World Race has converted into a sporting event with international recognition and has achieved high quotes at many different communication and media channels in the world. After 27 days at the Expo in the harbour of Barcelona everybody who was interested could follow the race with exceptional multimedia, thanks to the communication technologies which were developed especially for the Race.
